Important Straight-Party Voting Information:

There have been some rumors and misinformation spreading about straight-party voting, especially about your vote for President. Please read the following from the Executive Director:

To enter a straight-party vote (that is, a vote for all the candidates of one party), turn the select wheel to highlight the name of that party and press ENTER. Entering a straight-party vote automatically gives a vote to all candidates associated with that party, and is indicated by a red mark in the box to the left of all candidates’ names associated with that party.

WARNING: If you turn the select wheel to highlight the name of a candidate that has already received a straight-party vote, pressing ENTER again will remove the vote from that candidate, and the box to the left of that candidate’s name will be cleared, indicating no vote has been entered for that candidate. If you remove the vote from a candidate in error, press ENTER again to place a red mark in the box to the left of the candidate’s name.

If you select a candidate associated with a party other than the straight-party selection, your vote for that candidate will be counted in that particular contest.

  • Carefully review the ballot summary screen(s) to be sure each desired contest and measure has been voted.
  • Contests marked on the summary screen(s) as “no selections” have not been voted.
  • DO NOT PRESS THE “CAST BALLOT” BUTTON until all of your vote selections are confirmed on the summary screen(s).
  • Once your ballot has been cast, we are unable to retrieve or re-issue your ballot.
  • Please request immediate assistance from an election official if you have any questions.

Vote by Mail/Absentee

Applications for a ballot by mail may be submitted between September 7 and October 30, 2012 with one of the following requirements:

  1. Age of voter is 65 or over on Election Day.
  2. Voter is disabled.
    For #1 or #2, the ballot must be mailed to the voter registration residence address/mailing address or to a hospital, nursing home/long-term care facility, retirement center or address of a relative. The relationship of the relative must be indicated.
  3. Voter is confined in jail – ballot must be mailed to the jail or address of a relative.
  4. Voter expects to be out of the county on Election Day and during the regular hours for conducting early voting – ballot must be mailed to an address outside the county.

Applications must be received at the following address.
NO LATER THAN TUESDAY, OCTOBER 30, 2012.

Your Rights as a Voter

If you have any questions or problems, please call the Tarrant County Democratic Party at 817 335-VOTE (8683) or the Texas Democratic Party at (512) 478-9800.

  • If you are inside or in line at your polling place any time between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. on ElectionDay, you have the right to vote.
  • If you are physically disabled or over 65, you can vote curbside.
  • You have the right to request assistance from the person of your choice (other than your employer or union representatitve).
  • You may bring written materials into the voting booth (such as candidate literature or voter guides).
  • You have the right to vote without being intimidated by anyone. No one except an election judge or clerk has the right to talk to you in a polling place or in any way impede your access to a polling place.
    This restriction applies to poll watchers, law enforcement officers, and state or federal elections inspectors as well as campaign workers.
PLEASE NOTE: The Voter ID law has not gone into effect and it may not. For that reason, we are no encouraging voters to obtain an ID solely for the purpose of voting.

Poll Watchers, Poll Workers Needed

We need volunteers willing to be Poll Watchers, Poll Greeters, Drivers, Canvassers and Phone Bankers.
Everything comes down to 12 short hours on this day.

    Learn About The Different Roles:

  • Pollworker / Election Worker / Clerk – Election Workers work at the polls on election day and during early voting to ensure voters are able to exercise their rights in an honest and well-organized manner. Tarrant County needs approximately 2,500 Election Workers for each general election.
  • Poll Watcher – Candidates, political parties, and nonpartisan groups can appoint poll watchers to observe any part of the process, including: polling places, transportation of ballots, ballot counting, and the early voting ballot board
  • Poll Greeter – Remind and persuade voters coming to vote to vote straight party Democratic! (You must stay 100 feet away from the polling location)
  • Canvassers
  • Phone Bankers – Join us in defending our voting rights at Party Headquarters
  • Drivers – We always need volunteers to get people to the polls who cannot drive themselves.

Winning the upcoming elections is a matter of National Security. Use your vote or lose it.
